City Chambers is one of the most beautiful places to get married in Edinburgh. Right in the heart of the Old Town on the Royal Mile, it’s perfect for couples who want an intimate ceremony surrounded by the magic of the city.
I absolutely love photographing weddings at City Chambers Edinburgh. The moment couples walk out onto those famous building after the ceremony is always full of joy - hugs, confetti, big smiles and that lovely moment when it all finally feels real.
One of the things that makes a City Chambers wedding so special is that everything is right there. Within just a few minutes we can wander through the Old Town, Royal Mile, Victoria Street, The Vennel, St Giles Cathedral or find quiet little corners for portraits, or simply walk through the streets while you soak in the moment together.

Ceremony Rooms at City Chambers Edinburgh
City Chambers Edinburgh offers several beautiful ceremony rooms, each with its own atmosphere and style. One of the things I love most about photographing weddings here is how every room feels slightly different, which allows couples to choose a space that truly fits their celebration. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to photograph ceremonies in several of these rooms, and each one brings its own character and charm to a City Chambers Edinburgh wedding.
European Suit
The European Room is one of the largest ceremony rooms at City Chambers and can host up to 70 guests. It’s a bright, elegant space overlooking the courtyard. The walls are lined with impressive paintings depicting some of the most important episodes of Scotland’s rich history.
This one is actually my favourite room at City Chambers to photograph. It feels open and full of light, which creates such a beautiful atmosphere for ceremonies. Because the space is larger, couples can invite more family and friends while still keeping that intimate City Chambers feeling.
And what I also love about this room is that it works beautifully even for very small ceremonies. I once photographed a wedding here with just four people present, and it still looked absolutely amazing. The space feels elegant and special no matter the size of the celebration.
Alexander Suite
The Alexander Suite is actually one of the most popular choices for weddings here. Located on the ground floor, it can host up to 36 guests, making it a great option for couples who want an intimate ceremony surrounded by close family and friends.
The room overlooks the courtyard of City Chambers, which gives it a really lovely atmosphere, and there is also a small lounge area where couples can meet the registrar before the ceremony. It feels relaxed and welcoming while still being part of the beautiful historic building in the heart of Edinburgh.
Wee Neuk
The Wee Neuk is the smallest ceremony space at Edinburgh City Chambers and is designed for very intimate ceremonies. It is perfect for couples who want something simple and private, as the room accommodates just the couple and two witnesses.
Because the space is so small, some couples sometimes wonder if a photographer is allowed to be there as well. I can happily reassure you that yes - a photographer can attend, and I’ve photographed ceremonies in the Wee Neuk a few times. Even though it’s a very intimate setting, it’s still such a special moment to capture.
These small ceremonies often feel incredibly personal and emotional, and it’s always wonderful to document those first moments just after the couple officially becomes married. Even with just a few people present, the atmosphere can be truly beautiful and meaningful.

Arrival & storytelling moments
I arrive around 30 minutes before the ceremony to capture those quiet moments before everything begins - guests arriving, final touches, little nerves and excitement, and relaxed portraits of each of you before the ceremony.
If you’re arriving together, we can create a few natural portraits nearby before heading inside.
If you’re arriving separately, I usually photograph one partner first, then the other just before the ceremony.

Exit, confetti, group photos & relaxed couple portraits
After the ceremony we step outside for congratulations and, if planned, a confetti moment right outside City Chambers.
We then take a few relaxed group photos with family and friends before heading for a short walk together through some beautiful nearby Old Town locations such as the Royal Mile, Victoria Street, St Giles’ Cathedral and some of my favourite hidden closes nearby.
No awkward posing just gentle guidance so the photos feel natural and like you.
