When Bea and Jake invited me along to capture their big day, I knew it wouldn’t be a “traditional wedding.” And that’s exactly what made it so special. These two didn’t get married in the typical sense -they entered into a legal partnership. No labels of “husband” or “wife,” just two people committing to life together on their own terms. Honestly, I love that. It was real, modern, and perfectly them.

A Celebration in the Heart of the Festival
Their day took place right in the middle of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which meant the city was buzzing with energy. Crowds, street performers, laughter, music - it all added such a unique backdrop to their celebration. While the world outside was full of theatre and art, Bea and Jake’s own story took center stage inside the Edinburghs City Chambers.
The Ceremony
Bea and Jake chose the smaller, more intimate room at the City Chambers for their ceremony - a Wee Nook. It was only 6 of us inside. B&J, witnesses, celebrant and myself. It was simple, heartfelt, and focused entirely on the two of them. Their closest family waited in the office before the moment arrived, and there was such a sense of calm joy in the air.

group photos to remember
As soon as Bea and Jake stepped out of the City Chambers, they were met with cheers, hugs, and that infectious city-centre energy. The Fringe was in full swing, so the streets were alive - performers passing by, music echoing around the square, and our little group gathered in the middle of it all. It felt like the whole city was celebrating with them!
We took a few group photos right outside - those beautifully chaotic ones where everyone’s laughing, someone’s fixing a buttonhole, another is mid-giggle. I love that kind of energy; it’s where the real memories live. You can practically hear the laughter when you look back at the photos.

A Stroll Through Edinburgh – Posters, Irn-Bru & Pure Fun
After the hugs and group photos, we headed off for a little wander through Edinburgh - and honestly, it was the best. The city was bursting with life thanks to the Fringe, so every corner had something new: bright posters plastered on every wall, street performers, and that unmistakable festival buzz in the air.
Bea and Jake were absolute naturals in front of the camera - no posing, just laughing, exploring, and soaking up the chaos together. At one point, we stopped for a quick Irn-Bru break (because what’s more Scottish than that?!), and those photos turned out to be some of my favourites. It’s the kind of session where you can feel the energy - fun, colourful, a bit cheeky, and totally them.
Why This Day Stood Out
For me, this wasn’t about big details, fancy venues, or a long guest list. It was about authenticity. Bea and Jake celebrated their partnership in a way that felt natural, personal, and true to who they are. It’s a reminder that love doesn’t have to fit into anyone else’s box - it just has to feel right for you.

✨ Partners in life, partners in love - Bea & Jake proved that a celebration doesn’t have to follow tradition to be unforgettable.
